Growing up, every Sunday morning (for as long as I can remember) my dad got up and made us pancakes. And when I was old enough to help, he would wake me up before anyone else and let me help. At first, I would just butter the pancakes after he got them off the hot skillet. However, as I got older and learned his techniques, he let me take over. Of course, he was right there with me in case I needed help. I cherish those Sunday morning memories I have with my dad. Nothing will ever take those away from me.
One day, I hope my children will have that experience with Terry. He is a lot like my dad when it comes to cooking. Like my dad, he is a master of the grill and can cook some yummy breakfast food. Although, he says he hasn't quite mastered the making of terrific pancakes, but I have faith that one day he will. =)
Anyone can make pancakes out of a box, but somehow that doesn't scream "southern." So, here is how to make some "heaven on earth" southern pancakes!
Homemade Pancakes
Ingredients & Directions
3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Combine milk with vinegar in a medium bowl and set aside for 5 minutes to "sour".
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk egg and butter into "soured" milk. Pour the flour mixture into the wet ingredients and whisk until lumps are gone.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat, and coat with cooking spray. Pour 1/4 cupfuls of batter onto the skillet, and cook until bubbles appear on the surface. Flip with a spatula, and cook until browned on the other side. Spread butter on top of each pancakes, stack and cover in syrup. |
Enjoy y'all!!
We have pancakes every Sunday morning around here. The husband lets Kid #1 help take them off the griddle. Definately going to try your pancakes in the morning!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up my Pop always made waffles and would let me help. Nothing like homemeade waffles with butter, syrup and just a sprinkle of powder sugar... yummy!
