393 Magazine April/May 2011

The newest edition to 393 Magazine will be out on Tuesday!  Are you excited?  I am!!

After moving back to Meridian in 2007, I new it was the right thing to do and I also knew that starting 393 was something that Meridian needed, too.  However, I had no idea that so many from different cities would love this magazine so much, too.  Many are from Meridian and want to keep up with their hometown and some are people who are thinking about moving here.  Meridian might be known as a "retirement" city, but there is more to the city than just being a place to retire.  If you love events and getting involved, this it the place to live.  Meridian has great weekend activities for the entire family and now that Spring is here, every single weekend is jammed packed with things to do.  After I moved back, I kept hearing that there is nothing to do in this town.  And, if you still believe that — come work with me for a week, I promise I can change your mind.  For those who live here and know about the events going on and you still choose to say there is nothing to do — try participating... it just might change your attitude!

Here is the cover of the April/May issue of 393 Magazine.

These two ladies on the cover are two of the bravest ladies I know.  Margaret McCay and Bettye Hearns are both cancer survivors and are strong women of faith.  I can't wait for you to read about their stories in this issue as they both celebrate, remember and fight back!

And here is a look at "from the editor."
"Spring is here and if you have any doubt, just look outside at your vehicle.  Yep, that yellowish cloud after a breeze blows, that is our springtime pollen.  If you're like me and my sinuses, I'll be happy when it's gone.  We all know the blanket of yellow powder is coming when spring arrives, but unlike spring — we are usually ready for it to go as soon as it gets here.  And after an afternoon rain shower, you'll find little yellow rivers flowing down the streets.

With this weather brings all kind of events for the area to enjoy.  We have the Ralph Morgan Rodeo coming in April, Relay for LIfe in May and dare I say summer vacations are almost here which only means one thing — school is almost out for summer!  Before we know it, local businesses and churches will be selling BBQ plates, having raffle drawings and then it will be time to light up the night at Northeast Park to celebrate and remember this battle so many face called cancer.

Be sure to read about this year's honorary chairs on our cover for Relay for Life.  One day I'm going to video our cover photo shoots so you can see how much fun our cover features have.  From the time they walk in for the shoot until five minutes later, their minds are at ease and then the real fun begins.  You never know who might break out in song or bust a move. If the smile on their faces and the stories they share don't convince you that they are so happy to be alive and well, then we haven't done our job.  These two ladies are full of life and are proud to share their story of their life before, with and after cancer.  They are both mothers and grandmothers and give credit to the good Lord above for their healing.

This area is blessed to have an involved community.  From now until fall, it seems like we will have something going on every weekend.  We can't say Meridian is quiet — we are thriving and it's up to us to get out and enjoy it so we will have more of these events to come.

Hope everyone has a great spring!  And as always, we will be seeing you out and about!"

Don't forget to check the website on Tuesday to view online and be sure to pick up your copy from our local businesses to see what has been going on in your town!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, y'all!
