Weekend Eats in Birmingham, Ala.

Sunday, April 17, 2011

Friday, before all the bad weather got to Meridian, we headed out to Birmingham, Ala. to spend the weekend with some friends of ours.  Not only was it Eli's 7th birthday on Friday, but Terry was meeting some customers at Talladega for the Nationwide race.
(Tomorrow, I'll post his pictures from the race.)

We arrived at the Van Doren's house a little before 3 p.m. and by 4:30 p.m., we were dealing with all the horrific weather that Mississippi had just been through.  It lasted over an hour and we were very fortunate to not have any damage to the truck or their home.  However, the rest of the neighborhood was not so lucky.  We left out to grab a quick bite for dinner at Jim and Nick's and saw lots of trees down and debris everywhere.  The weather had us so nervous that I didn't even take pictures of our wonderful food we scarfed down.  But, I will say that we LOVED the muffins with cheese!

Saturday, after Terry got home from the race — we headed out to The Cheesecake Factory!  It just might be one of our favorite places to eat, ever!  The wait was an hour and a half, but they said they could seat us outside immediately.  It was chilly, but they had heaters outside and we very much enjoyed the atmosphere.  I ordered something different this trip, gasp, I know!  Not like me.  haha

Lemon-herb roasted chicken with carrots and mashed potatoes

And a Bikini Martini to wash it down...

We were so stuffed that we had to take our cheesecake back for dessert.
So we had Red Velvet Cheesecake — in bed!

On our way back home today, we stopped in Tuscaloosa, Ala. for a late lunch at Mellow Mushroom.

Even though we are NOT Alabama fans, we loved this part of Tuscaloosa.  It felt like we were in New Orleans waking around the French Quarter.

We ordered the Funky Q' Chicken Pie.  Full of BBQ chicken, cheddar cheese, bacon and sauce.  And enjoyed a garden salad with real, yummy bacon pieces.

It was good, but I'm pretty sure we won't be ordering it again.  Have you ever seen their menu — there are sooo many options!

We enjoyed our time in Bham this weekend, but it's always good to be back home.

Have a wonderful week, y'all!!

  2. Stephanie - we couldn't decide between that and what we ordered. We just weren't sure how we would like salad on top of our pizza. But, we said next time we are at "MM" we will try it.
