What I've learned...

from my mom that I didn't appreciate then, but do now...

It's always best to clean up as you cook...

Don't leave the dryer full of clothes, it will only be a disappointment when you come back to it later...

(Of course, if my laundry room looked like this, I would stay in there all the time!)

    Use your manners!
(Okay, I have appreciated this one the most, especially being around those who don't have them — kids and adults!)

    and these...

What lessons did your mom teach you that you have come to appreciate more, today?

    Sooo ready for...

    Our last dinner

    Wednesday, July 27, 2011

I've been blessed with some amazing friends all my life and meeting this friend in 2007 was the icing on the cake.

We have laughed and cried together, talked on the phone for hours at a time and we have eaten dinner together, a lot.  Every one of those things can still be done except for having dinner together — it can happen, it will just bee in another town.  Lindsey (LB) is leaving us and moving to Memphis to further her career as an anchor with Action 5 News.

Last night, I prepared her favorite meal as we had our last dinner in Meridian together.  Terry grilled the chicken, and I made her favorite loaded mashed potatoes, green beans and of course, sister schubert rolls.  We even got her an ice cream cake to make the evening a little sweeter.

Before we said our "see ya laters" we took a group shot to remember the night.

LB — we wish you the best in your new adventure in Memphis and can't wait to visit you before the end of the year.  We love you!!

    What have you left?

We've all done it — left something behind at the hotel only to realize it after you have returned home.  I use to be really bad about this, but now Terry goes behind me to make sure it's all grabbed and packed away before we head to check out.  I almost left my iPhone charger this past weekend — thankfully, he reminded me and I did not.

Now, sometimes I will leave shampoo, body wash, razor, etc. if I brought them in travel size.  But, I think the worst thing I have ever left was my pillow at the beach back in the early 2000s.  Yes, I travel with my pillow pretty much every where we go (especially places we have never stayed, because you never know what kind of pillow you will get).  Fortunately, we were staying at a condo at the beach and I knew another family staying there after we left so I called management and they gave it to her.

But, I have to wonder — what have you left behind?  Did you go back for it?  How far down the road did you realize it was not with you?

I can't wait to read your comments!!

    Terry's family birthday celebration

Once we were home from the birthday getaway, we met Terry's family at O'Charleys for dinner.  And afterward, we went to their house to open gifts and have cake.

    The cake...

Getting ready to blow out the candles...

And then his nieces came in to help...

It was a great birthday weekend.  We enjoyed spending time with our Bham family and can't wait to do it again, soon.  And Terry had a great time opening presents at his parent's house and enjoying his cake.

    Terry's Birthday Celebration, Day 2

    Monday, July 25, 2011

After laying by the pool and swimming, too — we all got ready to head to our dinner reservations at Shula's.   This was Terry's birthday dinner party.

All 7 of us enjoying dessert after our amazingly, huge meal...

Terry picked apple cobbler for his birthday dessert...

Stuffed from eating WAAAYYY too much...

And after eating all that food, we decided to walk around the mall so we weren't so miserable heading back to the resort.

    Jennifer with her three munchkins...

And then just her and the girls...

Before we left the mall, Piper wanted to go into build-a-bear workshop.  Terry and I followed them in and saw they had a dachshund... And since we don't have our Mar Belle full time anymore, now we have something to remind us of her, all the time...

When we got home yesterday evening, we introduced it to her and she wouldn't have ANYTHING to do with it.  Since I was holding it, she climbed in Terry's lap and wouldn't even look at me.  lol

    Terry's Birthday Celebration Day 1

We celebrated Terry's birthday in Birmingham at Ross Bridge with our extended family, The Van Doren's.

Terry and his MSU birthday cake....

This was the best cake!  So moist and rich and DELICIOUS...

    During dinner at Ross Bridge...

Brooke and Jennifer (Eli and Piper didn't want to stop swimming so TVD stayed with them)

Me and Jennifer watching the kids swim...

Me and the birthday boy enjoying the evening...

Eli and Brooke taking a break from swimming...

Jennifer, Piper and TVD cooling off in the pool...

Like daddy, like daughter — these two love the pool...
