Apple Store Visit

Thursday, July 21, 2011

Yesterday started like any other work day — me sleepy, but ready to get to work.  I got to the office pretty early yesterday morning because I had quite a lot to do.  (We upload the magazine in a few days.) So, as I'm working away here in my office, I notice my power cord to my MacBook Pro flashing green and red, constantly.  Confused as to what was taking place, I was later told that something was either wrong with my cord or the battery.  The only option, take it to the Apple Store in Ridgeland to have them check it out.

So, I left around 10ish heading to Jackson.  This was not on my things to do yesterday, but it had to be done.  I made an appointment at the "genius bar" to have it looked at around 12:45.  I got there right after 12 so they moved my appointment up.  However, I still had to wait until 12:45, but finally, I was called back.  They determined that my battery was, in fact, dead.  And a new battery would need to be bought and installed.  While changing out the battery, they informed me that my laptop was "behind the times."  It was four operating systems back and it just so happened that the newest operating system came out that day...

After 5 hours, yes, 5 — I walked out with my computer up-to-date and with a new battery.  Bill and Jay at the Apple Store in Ridgeland were very helpful and patience with me.  They even showed me a few cool things I might want to add in the future.

And you might be asking yourself, "what in the world did she do for 5 hours in that store" — well, I'll tell you.  I people watched.  Seriously, there were some interesting subjects that came in to look around and even ask questions.  The funniest were the "older" ones who would bring in their entire desktop computer (monitor, keyboard and hard drive) to ask why they couldn't get a website to work.  The look on the Apple guy's face was priceless!!!
