The "I want list"

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Do you remember waiting for the Sears and JCPenny winter/holiday catalog to come in the mail so you could go through it page by page and circle the items you wanted for Christmas?  Do you remember folding down the corner of the page after you had circled it only to immediately go write it on a sheet of paper like this...

pg. 37      item# 7843-A       Barbie Corvette                   $29.95

Well, sometimes I want to be that kid again — making that list after I've circled all the "items" I want.  Only that catalog wouldn't have children's toys in it — it would be adult items like this...

pg. 22      item# B11-3-K     Comforter - size King          $269.99
pg. 53      item# 1655          Hobo Elyse purse                 $248.00

Why is it when you get older the "I want list" becomes more lengthy, more expensive and tends to land on the "back burner list."  The days of longing for barbie, her friends and her accessories are long gone.  Now, we long for a vacation getaway on a cruise ship, a spa day, a new kitchen appliance, new bedding or a new purse.

Maybe I'll go back to making my "I want list" and, if I'm lucky, I can mark off one of those items a year.

What are some of the items you wish for?

  4. Yeah, I remember doing that!!! Just the other day my fiance and I were at Best Buy and just happened to wander over to the appliances and were kind of doing that, making ourselves a wish list of appliances we want in our future house!

  8. haha - I loved these catalogs as a kid. And I would mark and dog ear, too. The good thing is - as an adult you have a better chance of actually getting what you mark. haha
