I can't take the credit for them, though... mom made them for me last night. I'll have the recipe on the blog later... Happy Halloween, y'all!!!

Our weekend in an instagram

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

We kicked off our weekend with a little #maroonfriday...

Before we welcomed this little cutie and her granny to our home for a few days...

We woke up to high winds and falling temperatures so this little one had to wear her fleece jacket to keep warm...

Before we could get settled in to watch football... the Mr, my mom and I went shopping browsing. We ended our adventure with a yummy meal from The Cheesecake Factory. With that came decisions...

And then pure heaven... that we shared!

Then it was football time (yes, #weSTILLbelieve)... and little MB didn't hide her feelings about the game...

It wasn't long before these two got pretty bored with the game...

No pictures to report from our lovely Sunday... but our day was full! Church, shopping. a little McAlisters, naps and then a massive meal that mom cooked (roast, potatoes, butterbeans, and cornbread) was the extent of our day.

How was your weekend? I know this... I could use another one, right now! Happy Tuesday, y'all!!

the Friday five

Friday, October 26, 2012

the Sowell life's Friday five...

• Tomorrow night, State takes on Alabama. We didn't join the bandwagon this year... we've been loyal MSU fans since birth. And we truly believe in our players and coaching staff. Tomorrow night you'll probably see me tweeting with some of these hashtags!! Feel free to grab this picture and use it if you are a MSU fan... =)

• We've got company coming in this weekend!!! I bet you'll never guess who one of those is....

• We've had a busy week at work, and the kitchen has been full of food this week. Too bad I'm not in to sweets anymore or these would have been delicious! And from the picture you can tell which ones are the favorite around the office.

• Cooler weather is finally on it's way... and we hope it's here to stay!

• Yes, it's true... I haven't cooked all week long. Well, except for the homemade chili cheese fries which the Mr and I have both agreed that we will be taking this off our menu from now on... (I'll explain later). But this weekend, and next week with the cooler weather coming in... I'm thinking about making some of these recipes... Loaded Potato Soup, Crockpot BBQ Chicken, and maybe Homemade Lasagna.

Alright y'all!!! Have a wonderful weekend, and GO State, GO STATE!!!!

Thankful Thursday

Loved and Lovely

{I'm thankful} for answered prayers, and even more thankful for His perfect timing.

{I'm thankful} Christmas commercials are back!

{I'm thankful} He is the reason for the season!!

{I'm thankful} my favorite magazines are in full Christmas mode!

{I'm thankful} it's getting darker earlier. And yes, I might be the only one who actually feels this way.

{I'm thankful} the Mr loves an early bedtime because here lately I can't hold my eyes open past 8pm.

{I'm thankful} for text messaging. It will never take the place of a good ole fashioned phone call, but it sure brings a smile to my face when that phone lights up with sweet encouraging words.

{I'm thankful} for cooler weather that is on it's way this weekend.

{I'm thankful} MSU is 7-0 and will hopefully give Bama a run for their money Saturday night. A girl can wish, right? #hailstate

{I'm thankful} November begins a week from today. So many exciting things happen in November.

{I'm thankful} for Ryan and her link up, and her friendship.

Game Night

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

As I mentioned in my previous post, our company had game night on Monday night. The event was held at a local hotel close to the office, and we had a party planner organize the event and cater the food. I was the photographer (I'm sure y'all are shocked)! It was a really fun night to let our hair down and enjoy a relaxing night. Enjoy the pictures and the video... The party planners hosted a Jeopardy style game and as you'll be able to see... our employees get a little competitive! Enjoy y'all!!

What does your employer or company do for fun? I can't wait to see what's in store for us next!

Wordless Wednesday

Monday night, our company had game night. The theme was Jeopardy. I'll have an entire post dedicated to that night, soon. But until then... enjoy this picture!

Did I mention, my employer rocks!!

Happy Birthday Hannah!

Monday, October 22, 2012

Our niece Hannah is now double digits as of last Wednesday. And, this weekend... we celebrated with her and her milestone!

Happy Birthday Hannah! We had fun celebrating with you this weekend, and hope this year is your best yet!! Love you... Uncle Terry and Aunt Joy!!

Fish Fry and Music

Sunday, October 21, 2012

We were in Mississippi this weekend to visit with family. And Saturday evening before MSU went 7-0, we went to my home church's fish fry with music by my very own papaw's band!

At 83, he is still plays every Saturday night, and will play for most anyone who asks. They're all pretty precious!

Have you figured out which one is my papaw, yet?!

Yep, he plays the lead guitar and is pretty awesome at it.

However, he also...

 SINGS!!!

Aren't they adorable in their matching shirts?

We enjoyed some good food, and great music... and ended the night with a great football game. #hailstate Can't wait for next week's game!!!

Maroon Friday

Friday, October 19, 2012

So this picture might be is from last Friday, but we are always happy to show we are true maroon on Fridays!! And SOOO happy to be 6-0 this season. This weekend is homecoming, and we are hoping and praying for 7-0!!

Happy Maroon Friday y'all, and #hailstate!!!

Thankful Thursday

Thursday, October 18, 2012

I'm linking up with Ryan today for another week of...

Loved and Lovely

{I'm thankful} for blessings that can only come from above. His plan for our lives was written way before we even existed, and that's a powerful thing, y'all!

{I'm thankful} to married to the only man for me. He's the love of my life, the one that knows me best, and the one that is always there. Even if he makes me go to work when I'd rather stay home. =)

{I'm thankful} for our families. And I'm even more thankful we get to see them this weekend.

{I'm thankful} for the sound of a friend's voice. Even if Angie's voice was half gone when I talked to her last night!! =)

{I'm thankful} for O'Charleys. Yep, it's true. I don't think I could ever tire from their California Chicken Salad. Even if I do make them take the oranges and strawberries off! =)

{I'm thankful} Duck Dynasty is back on TV. Yeah, call me crazy, but I enjoy watching those bearded men and their crazy ways.

{I'm thankful} for DVR. Because I fell asleep and didn't get to see my favorite show last night.

{I'm thankful} the holidays are just around the corner. But I'm pretty sure I'll be more excited when the crazy Target lady gets herself back on TV. If they play that commerical every few minutes like they did last year, I'm sure to be sick of her after a day! HA!

What are you thankful for? We have too many to list, cause our list is out the roof! We are so blessed, and we know y'all are too! Have a great Thursday, ya'll!

What I'm Baking... M & M Cookies

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

If you follow me on instagram, you probably know what I was up on on Saturday afternoon. But in case you missed it... the Mr and I had a little fun in the kitchen with this....

That's right. We got this beautiful kitchen appliance back in February at the bridal shower from our Huntsville family members! And a few weekends ago, we finally bought it to our new home here in Alabama from my parents house. And Saturday, it was put to good use!

M&M Cookies...

What you'll need...

1 cup of shortening
1 cup of brown sugar (packed)
1/2 cup of sugar
2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 1/4 cups of sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon of salt
1 3/4 cup of M&Ms

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Preheat your oven to 375.

Blend shortening and sugars in mixing bowl.
Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Sift dry ingredients together.
Add dry ingredients to sugar/egg mixture and blend well.

Fold in the M&Ms
And then spoon onto the lined baking dish...

Bake for 10 to 15 minutes
Then let them cool and ENJOY!

They are chewy and mouth wateringly delicious! If you try them, let me know... they were easy to make and made quite a few. =)

My "I never want to" bucket list...

Monday, October 15, 2012

You always see people post a bucket list, but have you ever thought of making an "I never want to" bucket list?? First you might need to know what a bucket list is. That is of course you've been living under a rock for the past 10 years...

Definition #1: A list of things to do before you die. Comes from the term "kicked the bucket."

Definition #2A "bucket list" is a list you make with friends of things you always say your going to do and don't.  — Yep that's more like it y'all!

(Btw, these definitions came from Urban Dictionary.)

Now, here is a list of things I never want to do before I die...  and I think I'm a little more apt to make sure these never happen.

• skydive, bungie jump, etc. — Really I shouldn't have to explain myself on this one, but just so you know I'm terrified of heights, of falling, or the bottom dropping out from under me where I'm standing.

• go hungry — I love to cook and eat just about all Southern foods, and I don't think I could ever live without them.

• eat a squirrel, a frog or a possum. — No explanation needed.

• wrestle an alligator, snatch up a snake, or have a mouse run across my foot — Oh wait... that last one already happened a few years ago. I screamed and cried, and got the broom and a tupperware bowl after it. Poor mouse didn't know what it had coming for him.

• fall into a snake pit. — If you've read any of my previous posts before, you know just how much I hate snakes. I hate to see a picture of them, see them on tv, or see them through a glass (like at the zoo).

• get stuck on a roller coaster. — This would of course require me to get on one.

• run out of gas. — That's goes for being stranded anytime or anyway on the side of the road.

• get stuck on an elevator. — I'm always nervous on an elevator and for some reason I keep having dreams about them opening up between floors. Weird.

• to meet a vampire. — Not that they exist, but still you get my drift. (Yes, we watch waaaay too many movies.)

• get head lice. — Fortunately, I didn't get it in grade school, and hope I never do. Just the mention of those two words make my head itch!

• run out of finger nail polish. Yeah, call me crazy, but I love have a million different shades of red. HA! You might could call me obsessed... the Mr does. LOL

• lose touch with my best friends. These ladies know my heart and I know theirs. Life would be pretty boring without them.

What would you put on your "I never want to" bucket list?!

Let me (re) introduce myself...

Sunday, October 14, 2012

Do y'all remember high school?
Do y'all remember high school football games?
Do y'all remember some of the cheerleader chants?

Well, today I'm going to "introduce myself" on my 700th blog post!!
(Thanks to all my new followers and Marcie for giving me this idea, I thought I'd re-introduce the Sowell's here at the Sowell life.)

We are the Sowell's... the wifey is Joy... the hubs is Terry... she loves to blog... he reads/contributes to our blog... and this is what we're all about:

• Before this blog was renamed to "the Sowell life" it was called Confessions of a Southern Socialite
You can read how it became the Sowell life by clicking here and here!

• We're newlyweds.... and you can read all about wedding by clicking here!

• We are transplants here in Alabama. We both lived in Mississippi all our lives, but recently moved here to Bama land to further our careers and start our life together as one. We officially planted roots here and you can read about that by clicking here.

• We have the cutest little girl named Marleigh Belle. And you can read all about her by clicking here. She lives with her granny and papa, but comes to visit us often. =)

• I love to cook. The Mr loves to grill. Yes, we have pictures and recipes posted on this blog weekly, and some of our favorite recipes can be found by clicking herehere, here, and here!

• We love our dawgs... and you might understand why by clicking here.

• We love to travel by ourselves, to meet up with friends, or to hang out with family. You might enjoy seeing some of our little adventures by clicking here. (I might need to update this one... lol we've been quite a few more places since it was last updated.)

• Blogging has turned into more than hobby, it's become part of our life. Partly because some of my favorite bloggers have become more than just publishers of blogs I read — they've become friends! These are a few of them that are more like sisters to me: Darbs, Haven, Sarah, Jenny, Ryan, Megan, and Allyson! However, that number is growing daily. =)

Do y'all have any questions for us? We'd be more than happy to answer them for y'all!
