A New Year, A New Goal

Tuesday, January 1, 2013

Hello 2013! We are hoping you are lucky number 13 for us, and every one else! Seems like we were just partying like it's 1999 a few years ago, right?! Well, one thing is for sure... we are ready for this New Year and all the joy it will bring.

As you might remember from last year's New Year's post, I don't do resolutions. Instead, I have goals. And I'd like to share with you one of my goals for 2013...

A prayer journal.

I've heard of a few people doing this, but this is something that I feel like will help me have a closer relationship with God. Seems like some of our prayers become the same prayer over and over again. And I'm wanting to get out of that rutt. Not only will I be writing down at least 5 prayers a week, but I will be rereading them everyday. And I'm hoping that overtime, some of those prayers will have answers to them when I reread them.

I'm fortunate enough to have a few people doing this with me, and then there are some who are keeping me accountable. From time to time, I might share some of my prayers here on the blog.

Now, if you're thinking you might want to do this, too. It's not complicated, nor is there a right or wrong way to do this. I've basically purchased a notebook to write my prayers in. I have no format to how I will write them down. Some maybe short, long, as a list of people or situations that need prayer, or maybe even a list of thanks. My only advice is to let it flow from your heart. God already knows our needs, wants and our hearts, but bringing it all before Him just brings you closer to Him.

If you decide to do it, let me know. I'm excited to start my new journal today.

This is my first entry in my journal:

Thank you dear Lord for a memorable 2012. We experienced great joy, and great sorrow, but you've said you will never give us more than we can handle, and we have learned this first hand. We also thank you for bringing sweet friends in our lives to comfort us and encourage us. Your plan for us is greater than we could ever imagine and for that we are so very thankful. We give thanks to you for seeing us through another year, and bringing us to this, a new year.

We pray that this new year will bring praises to you in all we do. And that you will continue to bless us as you always have. We pray that this is the year you will see fit for us to bring an earthly baby into this world to love, hold, protect, and most importantly, share your love with. We know your timing is perfect, and we are ready for this gift from you whenever you are ready to bless us with a new little life. There are those who we have met over the past month who have told us of their struggles with pregnancy, and we ask that you bless them as you will bless us.

Continue to forgive us where we fail you dear Lord. Every day we fall short in our walk with you, yet you love us just the same. Thank you for that.

We ask for your conituned blessing of health for us and our family and friends. Sometimes we take those things forgrated Lord We thank you for our good health and happy home.

Thank you in advance for 2013. We may not know your plan for this year, but we are excited to see what this year has in store for us.

Heal our hearts, and our country like only you can.

Thank you for Terry and his love for me. And thank you for being a part of our marriage.

We love you dear Lord. And know that your love for us is endless. Thank you for your salvation and your promises. May we never forget. Bless this new year, and we will always give you all the thanks and glory. Amen.

  1. happ ynew years joy!! i love the pray journal idea, to look back later and see how God answered prayers, to have a physical reminder of the ways He answered our requests whether or not they were as we had asked but He always knows what is better for us.

  2. Great post. I used to do a journal daily too. I still read my Bible daily (my current goal is to read front to finish), but I don't write things down anymore. Though when I did, I loved it. And I love going back and looking on the things I wrote now too. Prayer Journals are EXCELLENT ideas! Good luck with the goal. And remember not to be too hard on yourself if you don't make an entry everyday. The main thing is to talk to God everyday, whether in writing or not.

  4. I love this idea!!! It's a great goal to set for yourself! I used to keep a journal (it wasn't a prayer journal but just an everyday journal) and it helped me so much!!!
