Advice — Washing Baby Clothes

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

Y'all have been so helpful with these advice posts, and I just want y'all to know how much we appreciate it. Whatever did people do before getting their questions answered on blogs? =)

I've always heard of using Dreft when it comes to washing baby clothes. However, while we were registering at Babies R Us we saw they had other options as well. So — here's the question:

Here's a look back at our week for today's edition of the #fridayfive!

the Sowell life

the Sowell life's Friday five...

1) {Showers of Blessings} Monday morning had me in tears as the USPS lady brought me three packages to the house. AC was spoiled a little more from her aunt and two other sweet ladies. Y'all just have no idea how thankful we are to have so many others who are praying for her, and love her so much already!

2) {Another Package} After being away from the house one morning, I came home to find another package at the door. Y'all might remember me asking advice about sleeping arrangements for AC on Monday on whether or not we should get the Rock N Play Sleeper. Well, surprise, surprise... another sweet lady helped spoil Miss AC and sent us one!! At this point we are just overwhelmed with the love and support from our family and friends!

3) {Bedding... Check!} Having a little girl adds a lot of pressure on mama's to be. You want her to feel like a princess and have the best of everything, but have y'all seen all the selections to chose from? After going back and forth, and shopping all day on Wednesday for the perfect bedding... it was ordered Wednesday night and will be here Monday afternoon! I can't wait to show it to y'all! And yes, it's the original that I've had my eye on for weeks.

4) {Marsie Belle Visits Again} We love having little MB come to visit us. But, I don't think she is liking that her little sister is getting all the attention and packages, and nothing is coming for her. Yeah... she is a little jealous! So we've been giving her lots of belly rubs, and turkey. And not to mention, she has been queen of the house by napping on my napping pillow and blanket!

5) {Halloween} Well, we will officially be participating in Halloween, or should I say Trick or Treating this year. The candy has been purchased, and we're gearing up for at least one hour of passing out candy. We've heard our neighborhood gets a ton of trick or treaters.. so hopefully we won't run out of candy in the first few minutes.

Now, who's ready to link up?!! I appreciate y'all spreading the word more than you'll ever know!! Please stop by and visit with the other bloggers who link up. It's a great way to find new bloggers to follow! And who doesn't love comments, right? =) Enjoy your weekend, y'all!

Advice — Car Seat/Stroller

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Y'all were a wealth of knowledge yesterday, and we really appreciate it. We appreciate it so much we are coming back asking for more advice!

Car seat and strollers... so many options, but which should we choose?

I've had my eye on this car seat since day one...

Graco SnugRide® Click Connect™ 40 Infant Car Seat - Moonstruck

However it doesn't come with a stroller, so we picked this stroller... it's just a frame and you snap the car seat into it...

Now, here is where we need the advice. Is this the right decision? We will regret not having a full stroller to use without the car seat after a few months?

One of the main reasons we picked this car seat is because it goes up to 40 pounds and can be rear or front seating. (Or at least I think it does... might need to double check that one.) And it has great safety ratings.

And we figure we could just get an umbrella stroller later on when she is older.

I need to know what worked for y'all. This is a big purchase, and we don't want to get something we will regret after a few months. And we also want something that is safe for our girl.

We can't wait to read your comments, and thanks in advance for the advice.

Advice — Sleeping

Monday, October 21, 2013

Happy Monday. It's happy because it FINALLY feels like fall is here!

Okay moms, moms to be, or aunts, grandmothers, etc... I need some advice. Over the next couple of weeks we will be registering for our baby items, and I have a question about how your newborn slept when he or she came home from the hospital.

We already have our pack n play... and figure that would work best to keep her in our room for a few months. But I'm also hearing that it might not be the best thing for her to sleep in. This is the pack n play that we have... It got great reviews, and I love that it has a bassinet to use, too.

So, I've looked at these two other options and I'm wondering if you use/used them, and what your opinion is on them.

Rock n Play Sleeper — this seems to be the new thing everyone is using and it's great to help with acid reflux which means less spit ups. And we heard that some babies do not like to sleep on their backs, and only sleeps when held and this makes them feel like they are being held?

Arm's Reach Co Sleeper — this would fit right next to our bed so she would be right beside me and make it easier for me checking on her and calming her down in the night.

We know the pack n play will be used a lot for traveling, and if we don't use it in our bedroom, we will let her take naps in it during the day in our living room.

So I need to know what worked best for y'all. I know that each baby is different, and we will have to adjust according to what she likes, but I would love to have some advice on worked best for your little ones.

***I will probably be posting a lot of these advice posts over the next couple of weeks. And we appreciate the advice and helpful hints y'all are sending our way.***

Here's a look back at our week for today's edition of the #fridayfive!

the Sowell life

the Sowell life's Friday five...

1) {Avery Claire} The best part of this week was seeing out little girl on the screen kicking and wiggling around, and finding out that everything is perfect with her and that it's a HER! And yes, that is our little one about to suck her thumb in my belly!

2) {All Things Girlie} I've never been a fan of the color pink. But I couldn't help but buy something pink for her while I was out shopping yesterday. I don't like the color pink on me, but I know that she will look adorable in anything.

3) {Enjoy, Relax and Stop Worrying} Most of you know our story with our first pregnancy, and we truly know that this pregnancy and this little girl is a gift from above, and we are very thankful for this gift. However, this pregnancy has had me in constant worry and fear about every three days or so. While we haven't had any complications with this pregnancy, it hasn't stopped me from worrying. I know that He has everything under control and I pray everyday that He will take that worry, doubt and fear away from me. Well, at our appt on Wed., the Dr informed me that my blood pressure was pretty high and we started talking about what could be causing it. She immediately told me that it's time to stop the worrying, and enjoy and relax. She said this is the best part of your pregnancy, and you need to take in every moment of it. I went back yesterday for a recheck of my BP and it was back to normal. However, the nurse gave me a talking to and informed me that she understood where I was coming from, but I needed to shake my fear and enjoy the ride. So that's what I am trying to do — stay calm, relax and enjoy! Pray for me that I can do this!

4) {She's Already a Movie Star} We were told to bring a DVD to the appt on Wed. so we could take it home and watch it over and over again. And, I'm so happy we have this DVD. The Mr and I watched it last night, and we saw so much more than we saw on Wed. (I think we were looking at each other and talking to her when we missed some of it.) And we get to show it to our families this weekend in Mdn. I can't wait for them to check out Miss Avery Claire, and see how active she is. Maybe I can figure out how to load it on here one day next week. That is if anyone cares to stare at our little movie star.

5) {An Unwelcome Visitor} This might come to a shock to most of you, but we aren't really cat people. The Mr is severely allergic to them, so we never surround ourselves with them. Well, we had a little visitor sleeping on our back covered deck yesterday morning. And when she heard me in the kitchen... she came to the back door and starting meowing. She wanted in. She had a collar on, but she kept pawing at me for me to check it out. About 3 hours later, she went on her way. I just hope she finds her way back home because when MB comes back to visit — having a cat for a visitor will NOT fly with her! Ha!

It's a...

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

We are excited to announce that we are having a little girl!!! She was kicking and squirming all around for us today, and we are just tickled PINK!

The scan was perfect. We counted bones and toes and fingers, saw all her organs, checked out her heart and her brain. She was even trying to suck her thumb. We are so thankful for the wonderful news we received today, and we give Him all the praise and glory! And thank y'all for all of your prayers... they were heard and felt!

Now for the big reveal of the name... Avery Claire!!

Thoughts, Ramblings and Prayers

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

If everything goes as planned tomorrow, we will know whether Baby Sowell is a little boy or a little girl. No more will we be calling the baby he or she, but we will actually start calling the baby his or her actual name!

However, tomorrow is not all about finding out the gender (even though it's really exciting), it's also our big anatomy scan where they will check out every detail of the baby's organs to make sure everything is developing. This is exciting and makes me nervous, and we are praying that we hear "you have a healthy growing baby in there." And I'd love it if y'all could help us pray for this great news tomorrow.

While y'all made your guesses to whether we will be covered in blue or pink, we promise to not leave y'all hanging tomorrow after the appointment. After we have called our parents, we will get a blog post up and ready to post for y'all to find out the reveal. We hope to have the blog up as soon as possible, so just bare with us. But, not only will y'all find out the gender, we will also be announcing the baby's name!! And I'm excited for y'all to hear that news, too!!

I will say that while I've been set on boy over the past few weeks, girl was guessed most yesterday. And last night, while I was up during my 1:30 — 4:00 break from sleep, the Mr rolled over and started rubbing the belly and when I asked him what he was doing... he said he was rubbing the belly because "she" likes it! I said you do realize you just said "she" right, and he laughed and said... I guess I did. One thing is for sure, no matter whether we find out if Baby Sowell is a boy or a girl tomorrow, we will be overjoyed with the news. We are so blessed to have been given this precious gift from Him, and we know He will give us the baby He wants us to have!

A little over 24 hours before we see our little bundle of joy. I'm ready!!

Boy or Girl??

Here's a look back at our week for today's edition of the #fridayfive!

the Sowell life

the Sowell life's Friday five...

1) {You've Got Mail} I love getting mail, especially when it's not a bill. And I got the cutest little note in the mail from two sweet girls and their mom this week.

2) {YUM YUM} Chili cheese fries — need I say more? We had our first chili of the season, and I'm thinking there will be more nights of this in the future!!

3) {Remodeling} In case you missed yesterday's post, we are about 98% finished with our remodel of the upstairs guest bath. We will finish up the rest of the project this weekend.

4) {Keeping it Real} We like to keep it real around here, so this is a photo of my side of the bed after a night of sleep. And there is still a pillow missing in this photo. Poor Mr is getting out numbered by pillows!

5) {Fall Weather} This week has finally been a week that actually feels like fall. Especially the morning temps. I've even noticed that the air hasn't been coming on much anymore during the night. Yay for a lower power bill!!

Upstair Guest Bathroom Reveal

Thursday, October 10, 2013

First let me just say, that today is my 1000th post! That's a lot of writing, y'all! And I'm happy most of you have been with me through it all.

The remodel, well, it's almost over. We still have a few things like touching up some paint, changing out a light fixture, oh and making sure the faucet doesn't leak — but we are almost finished with this DIY project!

It all started on a Thursday night while I was out of town when the Mr and my mom started tearing out the bathroom the first week of September.

That Saturday after the big tear out, the Mr was making sure all the plumbing was unhooked and turned off, and the shut off valve turned itself back on flooding the bathroom. Only problem was he was the only one here so he had to fix it and clean it up all by himself. (I wish I could have gotten him to tell y'all this story, because it would have you rolling. And he said he may or may not have been letting a few cuss words fly. Ha!)

Next up was laying the tile. Mom and the Mr actually did all of this in 2 1/2 hours on a Wednesday night.

That weekend, the Mr got the grout and the trim up so we could get on with the program.

This week, we were happy to get our toilet and granite installed. He even took care of changing out one of the lights.

Last night, it was time to hook up the new faucet and get the bathroom fully functional again. I was enlisted to help with some of the work. Mainly holding things in place, etc. Well, I'm not the best assistant. Let's just say that we had to do and redo the cold handle three of four times because the lock position was where it needed to be. To my defense, I had no way of knowing where the lock position was — until he finally showed me the next to last time. He still has a little bit of tweaking to do with the plumbing because it wants to leak a drop or two of water when it drains. But, considering he didn't major in plumbing (and we all know I didn't) I think this bathroom is perfect because it was all a labor of love.

Pumpkin vs. Non Pumpkin

Wednesday, October 9, 2013

I stirred up a little debate on twitter earlier today with my statement of not liking pumpkin flavored anything. I found that either y'all are strongly against me, or strongly with me.

Let me first say that I love the look of all pumpkin decorations. I'm not anti pumpkin, I just do not like pumpkin flavored things.

However, I feel like I'm making a blogger no no by admitting this today. You see, in my blog feed there has been a flood of pumpkin flavored recipes since October began. Not to mention that I see at least once or twice a day someone showing off their Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks.

My question is... Why can't we have a season where it's all about sweet potatoes. Now that's something I could really get into — sweet potato fries, sweet potato casserole, sweet potato pie. YUM!

For those of you who are cursing me under your breathe for not being a pumpkin flavor fan, I will say that some of the recipes I've seen look like they would be delicious. However, I'm going to take your word on the taste... I can hear my taste buds clapping in the background.

If you are looking for a great pumpkin recipe... you "fans of pumpkin" might like:

Darby's Pumpkin Bread with Cinnamon Pecan Streusel — if it wasn't pumpkin flavored I know I would love it!

Now, I have to ask... are you a pumpkin flavored girl or a non pumpkin flavored girl. You can admit it, I promise you will not get any backlash from me! I can't wait to see how many of you are lovers or haters.

Getting Good Practice...

Tuesday, October 8, 2013

This past weekend, the Mr and I had some friends and their little girls over to watch the game and grill out Saturday night. We love it when they come over because the house is full of excitement and laughter while they are here.

My mom actually kept the littlest one, Sol, a month ago and every time she walks through the front door, she is looking for her, and MB. So we had to take a picture for Granny so she would know who was looking for her.

And since the bulldawgs were playing (and playing good for the first three quarters) little Sol started cheering for our boys!

Then on Sunday, their parents had a dinner to attend, so we got to keep the girls that evening while they were away. I'm pretty sure in those hours, we got a good taste of what our world will be like in a year or so. Stella is 5 and Sol is 1 1/2. And these girls are a trip, and full of energy.

The Mr entertained the girls while I finished up dinner. And it was so much fun making little plates for them. I can't wait til this is something I get to do every night — fixing three plates instead of two!

After dinner the girls entertained us. You can tell they love each other. But, sometimes it's fun to beat up the older sister. And we are pretty sure Sol learned her moves from the WWE. Ha!

We had so much fun keeping the girls, and I can't wait until our home is filled with the sound of a child's laughter 24/7.

Yes/No — I need your help!

Monday, October 7, 2013

Next Monday y'all get to place your vote on what you think Baby Sowell will be. It's hard to believe that in only a week and a half, we will know.

Until then, I need some help.

We are looking online and thinking about what we will be registering for. We aren't in a huge rush, but some have already asked what they can get us for Christmas, and we are thinking these would make the best Christmas gifts for us!

So we need your help. What should we register for? What websites were most helpful when you registered? What is something you wish you would have registered for, but didn't?

Spill it ladies... I know y'all have some good advice!!

Friday Five — link up #40

Friday, October 4, 2013

Here's a look back at our week for today's edition of the #fridayfive!

the Sowell life

the Sowell life's Friday five...

1) {Monday lunch date} Last February, I had the pleasure to meet with a bunch of sweet bloggers from my area for a blate. Well, one of the girls in our group is due just a few days before we are. So Monday, I met up with her at Olexa's for lunch. It's funny, she got married two days before the Mr and I did. And now, we are due just a few days apart. Small world, right?

2) {MB comes for a visit} My sweet girl came for a few days this week to spend some time with me. We took naps, watched tv and napped some more. Ha! She's back in Mississippi, but I know she'll be back soon for another visit.

3) {Haircut} I got my haircut on Tuesday. It had been 4 months, and it was needed. She chopped over 2 inches off and it looks so much better. I've decided I'll probably get another cut in February before the baby comes. And, I'll probably get it colored either right before or right after the baby is here. The jury is still out on that one.

4) {Yes, I eat veggies!} I grew up eating a meat and two vegetables with almost every meal. Well, it kinda stuck. So we have carried on that tradition here at the Sowell house. Oh, and we also rock the paper plates most of the time. Fine china at it's best, y'all!

5) {TS Karen} Alabama is looking like we will be wet this weekend with some wind from the tropical system out in the gulf. I'm game as long as we don't have bad weather. Cause you know rainy weather makes for the best naps.

Now, who's ready to link up?!! I appreciate y'all spreading the word more than you'll ever know!! Please stop by and visit with the other bloggers who link up. It's a great way to find new bloggers to follow! And who doesn't love comments, right? =) Enjoy your weekend, y'all!
